The school aims to raise awareness through the young generation about the beauty of Bulgarian musical and dance folklore. Children curiosity and eagerness combined with support from their parents are essential for accomplishing the mission. Children interest and motivation to study the vast Bulgarian traditions and culture grows!
Today almost 10 years later more than 150 children aged between 5 and 17 years visit the school, divided in 4 groups. Tutors are artists from Ensemble Trakia – Petya Donevska, Tsvetoslav Kostov and assistant – Borislav Zgurovski.
The school maintains a repertoire containing personal authors’ dances as well as classic dances from children dance art.
In the last few years, apart from their periodic concerts on which the children display what they have learned, the school successfully takes part in various festivals in Bulgaria:
National music-folklore contest ‘Orpheus’ talents’, Plovdiv;
Folklore fair ‘Past in the future’, Kovachevitsa;
Ravda International children festival;
Concert in memory of Dimitar Doytchinov as a part of Plovdiv International Folklore Festival as well as many concerts on various occasions in the municipalities of Plovdiv and Asenovgrad.
In 2019, the year when Plovdiv was European Capital of Culture, Trakia Children Dance School took part in a special concert for the 45th anniversary of Trakia Folklore Ensemble – ‘Meeting between generations’ – on the stage of the full Ancient theatre. 21 November is the date chosen for birthday of the school – the day of Youth and Christian family.
